Samantha Heiken, DVM, is originally from Illinois and received her Bachelors degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois in 2004. She then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. After completing her course work in St. Kitts she spent a year at Oklahoma State University finishing her clinical course work. Upon graduation from veterinary school in 2008, Samantha completed a 1 year equine medical and surgical internship at Equine Medical Associates in Edmond, Oklahoma. Then she went on to work in a small animal and equine private practice in Choctaw, Oklahoma, until she moved to Ohio and joined SCVEC in October of 2011. Her professional interests include feline medicine and surgery as well as endoscopy. She also stays current with advancements in equine sports medicine through actively participating in equine events with her two Quarter Horses.
Dr. Heiken is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association.
When not working at SCVEC, Dr. Heiken enjoys spending time with her pets at home, which include 9 cats, 2 horses, a miniature donkey, and German Shorthair Pointer. Her hobbies include travel, cooking, scuba diving, and barrel racing.
